FAQ

How does Pipette Genie stand out from other pipette tracking devices in the market?

Unlike some competing devices in the market using a tablet computer as its screen, Pipette Genie's touch display with an adjustable angle of 180 degrees is more user-friendly and accommodates most usage scenarios in a laboratory setting. The All-In-One design and the built-in battery make Pipette Genie a truly cordless device that can be moved around easily. For more information, check out our Features page.

What types of microplates are compatible with Pipette Genie?

Pipette Genie accommodates most types of microplates in the market including cell culture microplates, assay microplates, nucleic acid reaction assay microplates (PCR plates), and strip tubes. Storage (deep-well) microplates are currently not compatible with Pipette Genie.

Do I need to use special pipettes or microplates with Pipette Genie?

No. Pipette Genie is compatible with most single- and multiple-channel pipettes of major brands. Pipette Genie also accommodates most standard microplates in the market. If you want to make sure if a specific pipette or microplate is compatible with Pipette Genie, please send us a message.

Do I need to use adapters for 96- and 384-well microplates?

No. For 96- and 384-well microplates, you can put them directly at the detection slot. However, make sure to use the adapter block for PCR plates strip tubes.

Can I use Pipette Genie to help with "cherry-picking" tasks?

"Cherry-picking", or "hit picking" means transferring of volumes of aliquots from specific locations in a source plate to specific locations in a destination plate. It is highly error-prone as it requires constant multitasking in order to ensure the correct well is pipetted. Now you can use two Pipette Genie units side by side to complete a cherry-picking task more accurately and efficiently. We will offer you a discount if you order two or more sets of Pipette Genie.

Will the built-in mixing function jeopardize the samples?

The vibration frequency is optimized for non-destructive sample/reagent mixing process. If you work with adherent cells, cell adhesion will not be affected by the mixing process. Meanwhile, we recommend having the plate sealed during mixing in case the liquid jump from wells if a small dead volume left in the well.

Are there cooling modules for 96- and 384-well microplates?

Yes. But unlike the cooling blocks (for PCR plates and strip tubes) with aluminum holes accommodating each tube, the cooling module for 96- and 384-well microplates are an aluminum plate on which the plate can sit on. You can order the cooling plates separately from us.
